Matt Dunn
Professor Matt Dun is Chair in Medical Sciences and Professor of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Research at the University of Newcastle, and Director of Brain Cancer Research at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). He leads translational programs in diffuse midline glioma (DMG/DIPG) and contributes to international clinical trials through the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC).
Matt has received 38 national and international awards, including the ASMR Medal (2024), and delivered a National Press Club Address in Canberra. He was named Australian Financial Review Higher Education Emerging Leader (2025) and awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (2026) for contributions to paediatric cancer research.
He is also founder of RUN DIPG, a national charity supporting research and families affected by childhood brain cancer. His work integrates discovery science, clinical translation, and advocacy to improve outcomes for children with high-grade glioma.
