Professor Donald Mabbott is a cognitive neuroscientist, developmental neuropsychologist, and an international leader in studying acquired brain injury – particularly the impact of brain tumours on brain growth and cognitive development in childhood and adolescence. Professor Mabbott has been instrumental in documenting the thinking and learning problems that children and adolescents treated for brain tumours experience, and the underlying damage to brain structure and function that cause these problems. His recent work focusing on ways to harness innate neuroplasticity to foster cognitive recovery and brain repair injury in childhood is groundbreaking. He has authored over 135 career journal articles ~ half of these published in the last 5 years. In 2022, he was awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair – in white matter plasticity and cognitive development and he has received the Award for Excellence in Pediatric Quality of Life Research from the Society for Neuro-Oncology (2014).
