MY ROOM

My Room

My Room Children’s Cancer Charity is a volunteer led organisation, working together to support patients and families affected by cancer, without the bureaucracy. We rely on the generosity of our donors to fund support for families, medical equipment, clinical care, research and trials. We’re committed to raising funds ethically and in a cost effective manner.

My Room has a full-time executive and is provided offices, administration and financial management services pro-bono. We’re proud to say we keep our administration costs low, and combined with our efficient fundraising methods, we administer a greater proportion of donations directly to the projects it funds. We hold a deductible gift recipient status (DGR1), and are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

My Room won’t stop until there’s a 100% cure rate for childhood cancers. Until then, we will continue supporting patients and families during their treatment journey and into their future.

FOUNDING FAMILIES: ONE UNITED VOICE
My Room was founded in 1993 by three families: The Marcoccis, The McGraths and The Rathbones. These families were personally touched by childhood cancer, and came together with the humble goal of raising enough money to renovate the rooms of the cancer ward of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). They achieved that goal, and many more followed.

In 1998, that same group of dedicated parents helped create the Children’s Cancer Foundation, to act as an umbrella organisation for groups supporting paediatric cancer. My Room and the Children’s Cancer Foundation continue to work together, speaking with one voice, and acting with one vision to make Australia a global leader in the fight against childhood cancer.

Between 2002 and 2004, My Room, in collaboration with the Children’s Cancer Foundation, conducted an unprecedented capital campaign. Over $23 million was raised to reconstruct the Children’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital along with linked research facilities. These facilities opened in 2006 and now set a new standard for paediatric cancer care and research in Australia.

Over the past 30 years, My Room has raised more than $30 million to improve the quality of life for patients and families affected by childhood cancer. One of our strengths is that all grant-funding decisions are made jointly, between My Room and the Children’s Cancer Foundation, to achieve the best outcomes. We know we’re stronger together, and together we can beat childhood cancer – working together works!
